Do you ever wonder what happens to your skin when it dies? If you don’t you should. Dealing with dead skin is an important part of a skin care routine. When you don’t take care of your skin, its appearance suffers. Many people experience from rough, dry skin, especially during the winter months. There are a couple different options to choose from when coping with a dry skin problem. The first think you’ll want to do is to moisturize daily. Try to apply a moisture cream twice daily; once in the morning and once before going to bed should be enough. The next thing you should do is to exfoliate once per week. Use a formula that removes the dead skin, but that won’t dry out the skin underneath. After a couple weeks of regular moisturizing and exfoliating, your skin should be glowing and clear. Don’t become frustrated if it takes a few weeks to see results, every skin type is different.

enthusiast1.pngThis is noting an article written in the Tampa Tribune in February, 2009.  “A shift in cultural attitudes makes it acceptable for men to primp and preen and still feel macho.”  Many men go way beyond just shaving.  They use moisturizing cleansers, alcohol-free toners and apply facial moisturizer and protect with sun block – all in the spirit of staying youthful.  “If you look good, you feel good” states a 50-year-old male retired police officer.  Men can order products on line and it doesn’t matter if it’s ‘made for men only’.  The same products work for both sexes.  A good facial cleanser, exfoliant or moisturizer, made with the best natural ingredients, knows no party lines.  Come on down men, we’re ready for you!

This is part of an article written by Mayo Clinic personnel.

Find out what moisturizers can and can’t do for your skin and how to select a moisturizer that suits your needs.

Moisturizers prevent and treat dry skin, but that’s not all they do. They can protect sensitive skin, improve skin tone and texture, and mask imperfections. In fact, you can probably find a moisturizer that claims to address whatever concerns you, from dull skin to clogged pores. But can a simple bottle of moisturizer meet these high expectations?

Moisturizer ingredients

On the most basic level, moisturizers hold water in the outermost layer of skin. They also act as a temporary barrier. Many moisturizers contain some combination of humectants and emollients, as well as other ingredients.

  • Humectants (urea, glycerin, alpha hydroxy acids, others). These are substances that absorb water from the air and hold the moisture in the skin. Humectants need very high humidity levels to be effective. Humectants are also useful in softening thickened or scaly skin.
  • Emollients (lanolin, mineral oil, petrolatum, others). These ingredients fill in the spaces between the cells in the skin, helping replace lipids and thus smoothing and lubricating rough skin. Emollients are either oil based, which means that a small amount of water is dissolved in oil, or water based, which means they are primarily water and have a light, nongreasy feel. Oil-based creams leave a slight residue on the skin and have more staying power than water-based creams do. Water-based creams are easier to apply and don’t leave much of a residue, but they don’t have as much staying power. Most creams and lotions on the market are water based (for example, Vanicream and Cetaphil). Eucerin is an example of an oil-based cream.
  • Fragrances. Most moisturizers include fragrances, which give the product a fresh, pleasing odor and cover up the smell of other ingredients. Fragrances in skin-care products are the most likely cause of skin irritations or contact allergies.
  • Preservatives. Any product that includes water and oil must contain one or more preservatives to help prevent bacterial contamination after the product is opened. Most products contain multiple preservatives. These ingredients can sometimes cause skin allergies or reactions.

Moisturizers may include other ingredients as well, such as vitamins, minerals, plant extracts, sunscreens and sunless tanners. Some also contain ingredients that claim to boost your body’s production of collagen and elastin, diminish stretch marks, smooth out wrinkles and exfoliate dead skin cells.

seado.pngThe sun is shining as you walk along the beach, with the glorious feel of sand between your toes and the fresh smell of salt water in the air (a dream, I know, for most of the country right now).  Before you realize it, hours have passed.  All too later, you realize that you forgot the block – sun block that is.  Oh, how neglectful when you had Dr. Caruso’s Sun Block in your beach bag.  Make a bee line to your bag and grab your Block – put it on and hope it’s not too late.  It’s the safest and best way to protect against the unwelcome rays.  It’s comforting to know that your Sun Block was formulated by a sun-wise dermatologist, with the highest concentrate of essential ingredients permitted without a prescription.  Back to the beach, knowing you’re in good care.  Enjoy!

blue_girl_dirk_struve_.pngAs we get older the ravages of the environment and time collide and take themselves out on our skin, especially our facial skin, which is generally uncovered and a victim of exposure.  There are some things we can do to diminish environmental aging, firm and tighten our skin and rejuvenate our skin’s appearance. Create an anti-aging kit.

Let’s put together some logical steps:

Wash your skin with a face and body wash that contains at least 2% salicylic acid.  This will wash away skin cell debris and improve signs of aging: fine lines, uneven skin tone and dry roughly textured skin.

Next, moisturize using a collagen boosting antioxidant product to encourage new collagen formation.  Marine algae peptides have been mentioned before to be effective in improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Lipid Drops are a silky serum that seals in moisture to counteract skin irritation and bring back baby-soft skin.  Lipid Drops boost the skin’s lipid barrier, which naturally depletes with age.

Lastly, never forget a replenishing sun block, with at least SPF36.  It replenishes moisture in the skin and protect against aging and skin cancer with micronized zinc.

Now, there you have it – a daily routine you won’t want to miss.

Clear facial skin is an asset to every woman. Improve your complexion and bring back the radiance by choosing well your cleansing skin care products. These should be able to remove dirt and excess oil while leaving your skin soft. Good skin products should also contain antioxidants, moisturizers and botanicals.Assess your special needs, skin type and lifestyle before investing in a variety of skin care products. Read ingredients carefully and follow manufacturer’s directions well. If a product doesn’t agree with you upon first use, discontinue immediately and look for other alternatives to prevent damaging your skin.

Anti-Aging KitMy actions to the contrary, I am not opposed to
anti-aging, anti-aging cream, anti-aging moisturizers,
or anti-aging skincare in general. I just don’t buy the term
anti-aging. How can you be against aging? It’s a life process.
It’s how we get from the cradle to the grave. As we age
we get smarter. We learn a lot as we age. What’s wrong with that?
I’m for exfoliating, I’m for anything that tends to tighten the
skin. I’m all for the facial mask, the moisture mask and the
tightening mask. They all add grace to the aging process. I’m not against
aging, I just want to age with a wrinkle-free smile on my face. Alas, too late!
